Victory Day in Kiev

While responsible bloggers and journalists paid attention to the return of massive tank-laden Victory Day parades in Moscow, I ran away to Kiev for the holiday weekend. Today’s MTBE brings you snaps of how V-Day went down in Ukraine, the first of a series of Kiev photo reportage.

Overall, Kiev seemed pretty relaxed about the holiday, with some people checking out the parade, but more people taking it as a day off or a chance to get married (see below). The police situation was also nothing like the goon squads in Moscow. The young men in blue seemed pleasantly casual (not an automatic weapon in sight!) and into the “it’s the freakin’ weeken’ and I’m ‘bout to have me some fun” vibe.
